How to read your Coffee Bean results

Start with calories, then check sugar and caffeine. A medium Café Latte lands near 290 calories, which covers about 14% of a 2,000-calorie day.

Total sugar includes lactose from milk. Added sugar counts only syrups, sauces and whipped cream. Health guidelines target added sugar, so the calculator tracks both. A plain latte shows about 21 g of total sugar and no added sugar. A medium Vanilla Latte carries about 21 g of added sugar on top of the milk sugar.

Caffeine depends on espresso shots, brew method and size. Cold brew runs highest because the grounds steep for hours. Matcha and chai sit lower, and Ice Blended® drinks fall in the middle.

Caffeine in Coffee Bean drinks

Black cold brew tops the list at about 250 mg per medium cup. That single drink uses 62% of the FDA’s 400 mg daily figure for healthy adults. Pregnant people have a lower target. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists advises staying under 200 mg a day, and a medium Americano at about 210 mg already passes it.

How milk changes a latte

Milk makes up most of a latte, so the choice matters. Almond milk cuts about 145 calories from a medium Café Latte compared with whole milk. Oat milk cuts about 60. Protein moves the other way, with whole milk giving 14 g and almond milk giving 5 g.

Ways to cut sugar without giving up your drink

Syrup is the biggest lever. Going from regular to sugar-free syrup in a medium Caramel Latte drops added sugar from 24 g to 0 g. Pairing it with nonfat milk brings total sugar down to 21 g. Smaller sizes help too, since Small drinks carry about 25% less of everything than Medium.

How the numbers are calculated

Every result is an estimate. Base values are for a Medium (16 oz) drink made with whole milk and regular sweetness, based on Coffee Bean’s published nutrition ranges. The About page explains the method. The calculator then adjusts them:

  • Size: Small is 75% and Large is 125% of the Medium values.
  • Milk: the milk you choose replaces whole milk in proportion to how much milk the drink contains. Black coffee and tea have none.
  • Sweetness: less or extra sweet changes the added syrup and sauce sugar by 25%. Sugar-free removes it.
  • Extras: each extra shot adds about 70 mg caffeine and 5 calories. Each extra flavor pump adds about 20 calories and 5 g sugar. Whipped cream adds about 90 calories and 3 g sugar. Decaf cuts coffee caffeine to about 4%.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this Coffee Bean calculator?

It gives close estimates, not official figures. Recipes change by location and season, so use Coffee Bean’s own nutrition guide when you need exact numbers, for example for allergies or medical diets.

How much caffeine is too much in one day?

The FDA says up to 400 mg a day is generally not linked to negative effects in healthy adults. Pregnant women and people sensitive to caffeine should ask their doctor. Use “Add to my order” to total a full day of drinks.

Which milk makes a Coffee Bean latte lowest in calories?

Almond milk gives the lowest calories and sugar in this calculator, followed by coconut and nonfat milk. Oat milk is creamier but sits closer to 2% milk in calories.

Does the calculator include added sugar?

Yes. Total sugar includes the natural sugar in milk. Added sugar counts only syrups, sauces, extra pumps and whipped cream, which is the number health guidelines refer to.

How much caffeine is in Coffee Bean cold brew?

A medium black cold brew carries about 250 mg in this calculator. It ranks highest because the coffee steeps for hours.

Do extra espresso shots add calories?

Only a few. Each shot adds about 5 calories and 70 mg of caffeine, so shots change caffeine far more than calories.

How do sizes change the numbers?

Small drinks use 75% of the medium values and Large drinks use 125%. Calories, sugar, protein and caffeine all scale together.

Why can I not pick a milk for an Americano?

An Americano is espresso and water. Black cold brew, brewed coffee and iced tea work the same way, so the milk setting switches off for them.
